Remember to get out and vote! And if you want the Branson Area to spend it's money better instead of raising the sales tax by a whole percentage point, vote against the sales tax increase! We already have one of the highest around--almost 7.5% and if this is passed, it will be 8.5%!! Incredible!

believe from what i've read this money is supposed to go for promoting Branson.

maybe a local can tell us better but think there was supposed to be some exemptions like for motels which already charged a tourist tax.

wouldn't mind so much paying a little extra.... putting it all on promotion seems silly to me when there's so many other things that it would be better spent on right now.

think I read it passed with less than 2000 people voting and less than 30 percent of registered voters in the area? that's kinda sad that a 60 million tax was decided by so few people.

I knew this would happen. As of this April, tourists, residents, etc. anyone in the Branson area will be charged 8.6% percent sales tax on most items they buy.

That just really bothers me how they made everyone in town think "YES to tourism." Yes, I want tourism to increase but there are better ways than to keep increasing the tax rates. Why not make better use of the marketing money you already get from the previous tax hikes? The solution is not MORE money but money better spent.

I think I'll run for mayor ..... Wink
