We stayed at the Quality Inn - Shepard Hills Expressway week of July 4, 2005. Using Priceline.com you can stay at this property for $35 per night. Of course, this 2* choice is not guaranteed when you bid. Rates were $58up during our stay at this motel. Many motels on the strip (rte 76) and Shepard Hills X-way (really a 5 lane undivided road) independant motels ranged from $25 - $39 advertised rates while we were there. The motel has an indoor and an outdoor pool, pool table and K-mart blue light type exercise equipment in a little room by the outdoor pool.
I would stay here again, but would also consider the many clean looking lower cost nearby independant motels or a low cost "strip location" motel. This city is motel Bargain Town! The Quality Inn rooms were very clean and moderately sized. No fridge. No nuke. Continental Breakfast free. Hot Breatfast $4. (Pay $2 more & go across for Granny's Breakfast Buffet) Slightly discounted show tics in lobby. Great advice on shows and restaraunts. Excellent seats for all shows. They set up seats then give you a voucher for those seats.
I LOVED the Shepard Hills XWay area. So much to walk to.
WALKABLE ATTRACTIONS: We were steps away from Shoji Tabuchi, Ray Steven's, Hamner Barber/Braschler, Pierce Arrow, the IMAX Complex movies and live shows, the Golden Corral's show and the Branson Hot Air Balloon. I walked to the strip, but that honestly is a very hilly, fairly long hike.
WALKABLE RESTARAUNTS: The TWO BEST restaraunts we found in Branson were walkable: GRANNYS - across from the Quality Inn had TREMENDOUS homemade foods. Great Buffets for all 3 main meals. Also, menu ordering is offered. Kids are amazed by the talking deer head. My wife and I could not stay away. MC FARLAINS restaraunt in the IMAX was entertaining and delicious. We loved the food and our waiter was a crackup! The IMAX also has Quiznos, Breadeaux Pizza and Baskin/Robbins. Also walkable: Golden Corral, Taco Bell, IHOP, Sweet Delite Desserts & Ice Cream & more!

WE STAYED NEXT DOOR AT THE QUALITY INN. SOUTHERN OAKS INN LOOKED LIKE A VERY ATTRACTIVE RESORT WITH A GREAT INDOOR POOL AREA.
We did not actually enter any rooms.
