While searching for vacation tips for our Fall return to Branson, I was surprised to read the review of the Jim Reeves Tribute Show. My husband and I attended about two weeks ago. We loved John Rex's voice and thought he sounded a lot like Jim. At first the fact that they had no band took some getting used to but the quality of his voice and the fact that he was singing so many wonderful love ballads made us forget there was no band. Also, he does a great sit down with his guitar in the second half of the show. We also thought his son, Scott, did a great job telling the Jerry Clower stories. We are big fans of Jerry Clower and still listen to his tapes. His stories are not boring to us. We loved it. The female comedian was great that day. She reminded me of Minnie Pearl, a lot. I think her name was Terry or Tracy. We are coming back in the fall with some fellow rvers and we plan on bringing our friends to see the show again. I guess it takes all kinds of tastes, but we loved the show and think most people would, too. We saw Ray Stevens, Jim Stafford, Jim Owens, The Duttons and a guy that did a tribute to Hank
Williams at the Imax and the Jim Reeves Tribute Show held it's own with all of them.
Thanks,
Anne and Carl McCullar

I never thought I would be saying this, especially on a thread like this, but my husband and I will never go see the Hughes Brothers again after seeing their show last week. They have some new guy in it who is not a brother and he is horrible. He was actually offensive. Tries to be funny and he isn't. And the Brothers talk way too much. They should just do what they do best and that is to sing and harmonize. They were on our 'must see' list for years, but not any more. What happened???

The worst show that we've ever seen. (Only one I actually got up and left) was That 70's show at the Cabaret theater downtown. Bad show nice people. It was the worst. I love Branson and all things Branson, but we actually stayed til intermission hoping it would get better, but nope. This is just my opinion others may disagree with me.

I am again going to respond to this "guest"..My wife and I love hte Hughes Brothers show and it is definitely one that shoujld be seen. The wives and kids are in the show with the brothers in the MORNING show. We go and see them every trip to Branson. This year is wonderful because they have 2 different shows..The morning show has thebrothers AND all the wives and 20 kids. They used to only do this during their Christmas shows. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw everyone one stage. What a beautiful and talented family! We can't wait to see them again at Christmas so we can see the family and the new baby in the living nativity at the end of the show. The evening show has the brothers and the comedian. It's a completely different show with a different feel to it. It's great because there are different songs in this show!
We love this show and you can also use find a coupon around town to save some money on your tickets!

The Hughes Brothers show SHOULD NOT BE ON THIS LIST. Instead it should be on the list of shows NOT to miss! I have seen both the morning and evening shows and they are both great! I don't know what the anonymous "guest" is talking about. The comedian was hilarious and I think most of the audience felt the same way that I do. I encourage anyone who hasn't seen their show to put it on their "MUST SEE" list.

You're right. They shouldn't be on this list. It is a great show....IN THE MORNING....the evening show is not as good but when you go from 20 some people on stage to 5, there's going to be a drastic difference. And sorry, the comedian is not good, unless they've changed the show. We don't buy a ticket to a show to be offended, and while I'm sure he is a very nice young man, he was offensive and not funny at all. I'm hoping they have made some changes because we have seen the Hughes Brothers for years and have always enjoyed them. Jason is all the comedian they need. We have always enjoyed him.
There is a difference... BUT it is still good!

Like you, my wife and I have been watching the Hughes Brothers for years. We first saw them when they were at Silver Dollar City 10 or 11 years ago. They had a great show! Everyone loved them so far as I could tell. Their new evening show reminds me of how they used to do their shows. It was just the brothers... no wives and no kids. In the evening, the show does have a very different feel, but it is still good. In fact, I am happy they are doing it because I can see more of them. I can see them in two almost completely different shows in one trip.

About the comedy in the evening show. You will probably be happy to know that they have made some changes since the first of the year. I don't know their reason for making changes, but I liked the show both ways. Last time we were there in July, we noticed the differences from the first time we saw it in May. I am a grandparent myself, so I also love seeing the whole family, although the brothers are the ones who started it all. They are all very talented. Someday, I wouldn't mind seeing the wives or just the kids do a show by themselves. The brothers doing a show by themselves gives more opportunities for them to be in the spotlight. As for the comedian, most shows in Branson have a comedian, so it really didn't bother me that they brought in talent from outside of the family. In the morning show, the brothers are only on the stage about half of the time. In the evening they are on the stage the whole time. I love both shows! =)

Big Branson Fan you sound like you're some close relation to the Hughes. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and if someone doesn't like their show, that's their right.

Personally I think the brothers are great. I must admit that I didn't like the comedian very much. I know he was trying to be funny but he doesn't seem to have that gift to make the audience roar. Maybe the brothers let him in their show as a favor, but he doesn't offer that professional comedian experience like others in Branson like Slim Chance, Jim Stafford, Yakov, Jarrett Dougherty, Stubs, Herkimer, Paul Harris, etc.

My opionion? If you're going to the Hughe's brothers, see the morning show. But that's just my opinion.

Sorry, but to compare the Jim Reeves Tribute to any of those you mentioned is a disgrace. You must be part of the show...there's no other explanation for it.

Of coarse everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just disagree with their opinion. To answer your question Theodore, I am in no relation to the Hughes Brothers show. Just a big fan.

There is one thing I have to agree with "Guest" on, the Jim Reeves show does not belong with the rest of those shows.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion...
I think that the Hughes Brothers comedian adds something fresh and new to Branson. His style is completely different than anything else in Branson. It's partially what makes him entertaining. His comedy is a little more subtle than most comedy in Branson. It's not hillbilly humor. When I have been there the audience seems to laugh at his jokes. So, I don't feel that I am alone in my opinion. Laughing

I like the Hughes. They put on a great show. I have seen both shows and I like them both for different reasons. Its always fun to see all those grandkids walk across the stage! If I had to choose between the two I would take the morning show because its all about family. The evening show is good too. The comedian seems to be a nice guy. There are better in town but he looks young and a little inexperienced. I'm sure as he keeps doing it, he'll get better.

Don't miss the Hughes show! Smile

I learned years ago to never step foot in the Owens Theater in downtown Branson, The Nova Theaters (used to be a movie theater) or The Branson Mall. The shows in there come and go and are lucky to even last a year. The last show I saw at The Branson Mall, they had an emcee that came out plastered after intermission. I'll refrain from saying which show as they are no longer in town anyway. The emcee could hardly stand up on stage...it was pathetic. My family and I got up and left. So spend you money wisely and see the shows that have been around a long time and have paid their dues to perform in Branson.

Well, I love Joey Rileys show and he is at the Branson Mall!

DISAGREE isn't the word. You have to be joking. This is by far one of the most creative shows in this town. It isn't a cookie cutter show like all of the others. In my respectable opinion, it has some of the best vocalists too. The Austrailian singer won Best female vocalist of the year for the entire country of Australia. The Lead male
is in one of the best bands here in Branson. With some of the best players in this town.

Shame on you You need to back up and regroup this one gbranmtns...you're all wrong.
