Has anybody been to Silver Dollar City before? We have a brochure on it but we wonder if it's worth the cost.

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Dave--I've been to Siller Dollar City before and you'll find it worth the cost. Not only do they have rides for the kids and crafts, but they also have good food. We manage to hit SDC once every summer. They seem to have something for everyone.

I would say SDC is worth the cost. We love going to SDC, it has the rides, crafts, cave, shows, and good food...alot to take in in one day, we go twice while we are there.

SDC is AWESOME! Very family friendly. At the front of the park next to the hospitality house are three restuarants under one building. One has BBQ, another friend chicken, etc. and the third is pizza, etc. All are all you can eat with kids four and under being free. Definately the best food deal in the park. Interiors are themed and have great air conditioning! We bought season passes as they were cheaper than a two day pass and we plan to go back to see the Christmas lights. Very enjoyable, highly recommend it!

Hey Tim, the Powder Keg rocks. I couldn't keep my wife and kids off of it. It goes from 0 to 53 miles per hour in less than 3 seconds and hits speeds of up to 64 miles an hour. If you like roller coasters, you will really love this one. But I wouldn't suggest eating right before you ride it. We all had a blast at Silver Dollar City.

SDC is worth it even if you don't ride the rides. The shows are great!

Without going through the timeshare routine--how do you get discount tickets for SDC?
I've posted this elsewhere and I can't get anyone to let me in on the scoop!

Is there one that locals know about????

How about 2-day passes--are they worth it or can you do everything in one?

Thanks!!!!

The two day pass is great, if you will have the time to use it. You can do SDC in one day, but if the weather is really hot & humid (as it usually is in July & August), you will be really worn out by the time the park closes. I think that the second day of the two day pass has to be used within 7 days of the first day admission - it does not have to be used immediately the next day.

SDC also offers "Arrive after 3 p.m., the next day is Free" program. It means what it says - arrive after 3:00 p.m. on any given day and purchase your ticket at the gate, and the following day is Free all day (not the same as the 2-day pass).

SDC has a lot of hills in the park. The front of the park is easy to navigate, but the back of the park is where the hills are - and several of the main attractions and shows. Wear some comfortable shoes for walking.

Amen to that! I was at Silver Dollar City yesterday and I thought I was going to die! It was so hot and I brought the wrong kind of shoes! (The hills didn't help me either). Luckily thought there were plenty of shops with air conditioning where I could recover enough to make it to the next one.

We saw the "Extreme Air" they have there. It was the first time I had ever seen it and I was on the edge of my seat. I thought those boys were going to kill themselves doing those crazy stunts! The guy on the rollerblades from Utah was exceptionally good. Well worth it.

Getting SDC deals

Hey--
Before I check them out--I got on the lodging site for the forum and someone wrote in from the motel industry. One place listed hotel packages with SDC--

IS THIS A TIMESHARE TRAP or are their true deals out there with hotels?

Also, if you do the two day pass thing-can you pick that up onsite or do you have to order tickets (internet etc) to take advantage of the offer? Like, do I need to be doing it now--even though I DON'T have a clue what the weather will be any given day?

I'd hate to play deja vu. We did it at Disney World and it was really crummy to have to walk in drizzle and wait for rides to re-open after the storms. Learned my lesson there on dropping a few hundred on a family without knowing the weather!

So can you get 2fer1 after you arrive at Branson--and Where???

Thanks!

Not sure if it's a timeshare trap.
There are several legitimate deals for SDC ticket at hotels. Silver Dollar City has a list of hotels in Branson, that offer 2 days tickets on their website. This is the file.

Often times the hotels will advertise that they have tickets on their signs, so I'm guessing you won't have to order them ahead of time and can pick them up when you get here.

All the rides are included with your gate admission. As far as all you can eat restaurants, don't think so. There may be an early morning breakfast buffet, not sure. You will find that the food is much less expensive than Disney, and there is a large variety to choose from. Also, the shows throughout the park are also included in your admission price.

Yes, there is a buffet near the front where you enter at SDC. We ate a buffet lunch there, but I believe others have reported eating breakfast. Seems like the lunch was around $10, but it was last year and my memory is dim. I do know that it was just average in my opinion. It could've been the time at which we ate .... things may have been sitting for awhile, but I remember that we weren't very much impressed with it.

Has anyone been down in the cave in silver dollar city? I always walk by it coming in to the park but I've never been down there. Would my old knees hold up?

The Molly's Mill buffet (fried chicken, catfish, ham, side dishes, and desserts) is somewhere between $6 and $7 per person (adult) drinks are extra but it's good.

We are talking about going to SDC on Dec. 3 or 4. Are there any ride/shows open? I know it said craft vendors would be open. Are the lights worth the $? Juggler

the ticket price is less in the Christmas season than through the rest of the year. But are the lights worth it..... yes ... no... I don't know...

Guess the lights are great, but it's really more than the lights. It's the whole Christmas feeling you get at SDC at that time of the year.

There's not only lights, but Christmas themed shows, a Christmas parade, decorations, costums, the whole place makes it feel like the holiday season.

Rides? you can check out the web site www.silverdollarcity.com for a complete list of restrictions but all non water rides are open however some shut down I believe at 38 degrees and others at 32 degrees, a safety issue and how the brakes work in cold weather.

i'd say go... you'll enjoy it.
